Thank you for your interest in Greenwood Dog Training School. We train at Harmony Grange Hall on Limestone Road (Route 7). We are currently training on Monday & Tuesday evenings and Tuesday mornings.  The Monday classes will always skip the 3rd Monday of the month (we do not have use of the training facility on those days) except for the months of July and August. Please see the Schedule page for when our next classes are scheduled to begin.

We hope that you and your puppy will be able to join us. We are now teaching using the “purely positive” techniques which we have found to be so easy, fun, and highly effective! With this method, the emphasis is on your relationship with the dog and how to best capture his attention. The vast majority of dogs respond extremely well to this fun, reward and praise based way of training. And with both an instructor and an assistant for each class, each dog and handler team can be assured of attention.

Our motto is "Teaching You to Teach Your Dog." In class each week, we will show you how to teach your puppy the basic “manners” that make for a great pet. We emphasize attention, coming when called, walking on a loose leash, attention heeling, not jumping up, sit, down, stand, and stay. We also teach the dogs other handy behaviors such as doorway manners, “leave it” and “touch” (which is great for teaching your dog to ring a bell to go outside).

You will need to be able to spend the time at home during the week really teaching everything to your puppy.  Homework sessions should be short and fun but happen often throughout the day. You will find it easy to include practicing the behaviors as part of your normal life. Any family members old enough to be quiet for the duration of the class are welcome, but only 1 or 2 people should be working with the dog at a time. We also talk quite a bit about dog behavior in class.  Everything is easier when you understand what is going on and why!

Beginner Students - Please fill out the Registration form and send it to us along with copies of your puppy’s vaccination record and your check for tuition ($115 for beginners, $140 for Level 2, $45 for Bare Bones, $60 for Recall Refresher). The fee includes class sessions, homework and other handouts, and a clicker. As soon as we receive your check, we will reserve you a spot in our next class. If you are sure you want in, be sure to send the check as soon as possible (you can send the shot records later - but we must have them no later than one week prior to the first class!). Classes are limited to 9-10 dogs and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

We spend the first ½ hour or so of the first class talking about the course and dog behavior - then we do jump right into training so be sure to bring your puppy. Guests are welcome; we have plenty of seats.

Level 2 Students - If you are new to Greenwood, but have successfully completed a beginner course elsewhere, please fill out the Registration form and send it to us along with copies of your puppy’s vaccination record and your check for $140. The fee includes eight one-hour sessions, homework and a clicker. As soon as we receive your check, we will reserve you a spot in our next class. If you are sure you want in, be sure to send the check as soon as possible (you can send the shot records later - but we must have them no later than one week prior to the first class!). Classes are limited to 10 dogs and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are a returning student, you need only send the tuition check and updated shot records (if applicable).

WAIVER OF LIABILTY; ASSUMPTION OF RISK; INDEMNIFICATION
Dog obedience training classes offered by the Greenwood Dog Training School involve group training of dogs. Dogs attending classes are typically untrained and unfamiliar to other dogs, owners, and school personnel. Risk of injury or other damages resulting from dog bite, dog play, and/or other dog interaction is inherent in this activity.

I hereby agree to make no claim or demand of any kind against the Greenwood Dog Training School, its owners, agents, and employees for any injury or damage sustained by myself, my child, or my dog, arising out of or in conjunction with attendance at dog obedience training classes or other functions at the Greenwood Dog Training School and/or surrounding areas, and I expressly assume the risk of any such injury or damage.

Further, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the owners of Greenwood Dog Training School from any and all losses, claims, or liabilities which they may sustain or become subject to arising out of or relating in any way to any action of my dog.
